Location, location, location! The 2nd Annual Original Monster Stack Shootout went off on October 21-22 right next to the beach at the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, CA. The show was a kick-off party for the brand new 2017 American Truck Show Circuit (ATSC). This new series of shows will feature a circuit that ultimately crowns an overall national champion in each division, as well as a new Work, Wash & Show class, which makes competitors eligible for prizes and a competitor’s choice battle.
With the 2017 championship circuit not officially beginning until April 21-22 in Wildwood, FL at the 75 Chrome Shop, the Dynaflex event became a no-stress competitor’s choice contest featuring 70 of the country’s most-awarded and hardest-working pieces of equipment, along with a handful of quality vendors like 10-4 Magazine, Stay Loaded Apparel, Bad Ass Customs, Big Strapper’s Apparel, Grand General, Diesel Life, Renegade Products and more. The foot traffic was light, but everything else about this show was awesome.
Some notable appearances came from Rollin Transport (who showed up with four of their beauties all the way from Wisconsin), Davis Bros. (who brought two of their signature rigs from Indiana), Bill Rethwisch (who came from Wisconsin with his brand new yellow and white Peterbilt tanker combo), the entire team from J & L Contracting (out of Springfield, Missouri), Bob & Linda Harley (all the way from Ohio) and a host of other “out-of-town” truckers.
Of course, some cool California locals like NAVA and Lil Ray came out to play, as well. But the truck that stole the show (and most of the trophies) was PDI’s latest creation – an amazing cream and brown Peterbilt 389 with a polished Wilson cattle trailer brought out from Utah by Brady Jensen.
Dynaflex always seems to put on events that make people feel like part of the family. Both Thursday and Friday night featured catered dinners for the contestants, and on Friday, during the day, Dynaflex arranged for surfing instructors, boards and wetsuits to be available to anyone with a truck at the show (or their family). It was fun to see a bunch of Midwest kids out there trying to get up on their boards! On Friday night, there was a meeting for new ATSC members to openly discuss and suggest ideas as to how they feel the new circuit should be run.
All-in-all it was a good event, with the location being key – it’s not often that we get to attend a truck show next to the beach. The location also made for a more enjoyable overall experience in regards to entertainment, food and accommodations. We think Dynaflex did a great job with this event, and look forward to what it will become in 2017. Stay tuned! And the winners were…
