Each January every one of us is hopeful that the new year will be better than the last and we will be ahead in our finances and less in debt. But this year more will be asked of us as Americans. Unless you have been hiding in a cave, we all know that this a very important year – it is an election year that will strengthen our country or take it down an entirely different path far removed from our Democratic Republic. Before the Presidential election, each of us should take some time to think our vote through. Think what is most important in your life. For many of us it is faith in our family, as life is easier if you have family to love and support you. It is harder to walk life’s path all alone. Next is faith in the Lord or, if you prefer, a higher power. The strength we receive from our God gives us encouragement to put one foot in front of the other. And many times, that is all we can do by ourselves, for we must look to Him to make us strong. The third faith is in our country. Many of our relatives came to these shores to escape the depression of the class system and brutal government of the Old World. I cannot even conceive how my grandparents left their countries, families and friends to come to the New World. America, the land of the free, where one can rise above their class and make something of themselves and watch their children have a better life than they did. Many came with less than ten dollars to their name and they could not read or write English, but their faith in America made them strong. When most of the immigrants reached these shores, they did not hold their hands out – they used their hands and backs to improve themselves and help to build up this country and make it stronger. Many of the immigrants and their children gave their lives to keep our country free. This country is special. While other countries are struggling with their economy, ours is booming. It has been a question asked for many years, what makes America so different. The answer is the people and our strong beliefs – we the voters are still in charge of this country. If there is one message that the politicians should understand is this: we are more intelligent than you think. No matter how many ways you twist the truth we will see through it. Folks, I hope you have a ticket to ride, because this is going to be one heck of a roller coaster. The message for 2020 and beyond is a simple one, but one that has always rang true: “God bless America!” We are proud to be Americans because it is truly the land we love. Here’s to your health and prosperity in 2020!
