MARCH 2005 WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO... B & S Trucking’s Produce Haulers Story and Photo by Truck Historian/Author Stan Holtzman
In this 1957 picture we see a 1950s Kenworth, parked at the L.A. Union Stockyards, loaded with watermelons. Bonovich & Scarla hauled produce with this KW, along with a small fleet of other Kenworths. The B & S rigs ran from Nogales, Arizona to Los Angeles, CA on a daily basis. In this photo, the colors of the truck are beige and metallic green, but later the fleet was to take on the new colors of light blue and white. It’s been years since a B & S truck has been seen and one must assume that they are either no longer in business or have restricted their operations, as they did business both in the U.S. and in Mexico. Notice that there were only two roof-mounted lights. This was to prevail until around 1960, when it was mandated for five lights to replace the two, for safety reasons. Anyone out there knowing the whereabouts of Bonovich & Scarla or any of their trucks can contact me at 10-4 by calling toll free 1-888-440-4104.
