 MOVING THE IMPOSSIBLE LOADS

In this 1965 photo, we see an LT Mack with an over-length concrete structure on board for Progressive Transportation. Based in Compton, California for many years, Progressive eventually relocated their operation to Irwindale, where they spent their final few years. Progressive prided itself on moving oversized loads and was in business for over 30 years, transporting things that others in trucking considered impossible to move. The Progressive fleet consisted of LT Macks, Peterbilts, Kenworths and GMCs. While these trucks were not considered to be great looking, Progressive quietly went about the business of moving special permit loads. I believe that this company “bit the dust” in the 1970s, but perhaps a reader out there can give me an update as to when and why Progressive passed into trucking history (please contact me through the magazine by calling 1-888-440-4104). The load seen here was one of many going to the building of the DMV facility on Wilcox Avenue in Montebello, CA.
