Built in 1967 and titled in
1968, this “Neat Pete” ran from Nogales, Arizona into both Edmonton and
Calgary, Canada, hauling fruit and produce. This Peterbilt was custom
ordered through veteran truck salesman Ralph Wasser of Motor Truck Distributors,
Inc. (the L.A. Peterbilt dealer in the 1960s). Scot Spradley ran this
rig for many years, before retiring. The truck is still alive and well,
now owned by Doug Burton, a Canadian trucker. Specs on this butterfly
hood Pete included a 12V71 Detroit Diesel, backed by a 4-speed main and
a 4-speed auxiliary transmission. Since changing owners, Doug replaced
the 4-speed main with a 5-speed, which matches well to the auxiliary tranny.
At a recent truck show, held in Whittier, California last May, Scot was
honored with a Founders Award, presented by the local chapter of the American
Truck Historical Society. |
