 BREAKS AT THE BOWLING ALLEY

Story and Photo by Truck Historian/Author Stan Holtzman

This picture was taken in the early 1960s, at the old bowling alley that was located at Rosemead and Whittier Boulevard in Pico Rivera, California. This high-mount Kenworth, as I recall, was painted blue with a white stripe, and had white lettering on the doors. I don’t know what this KW had for power or what it had in the way of transmissions but perhaps some of the readers out there can help me out on this one. In fact, maybe a reader can tell me if this is the same Cooper’s Transport that hauled lumber out of Ukiah, California - I just don’t know. As you can see, the load was tarped, which probably meant that rain was in the forecast, and lumber doesn’t do well when it gets wet. For more information on older rigs, visit my new website at www.linerigs.com. You can also find out about my various books as well as line print posters featuring vintage rigs of the past like you see here in this column each and every month. Log on and have some fun. If you have information on this rig or any others I have featured, call me at 1-888-440-4104 or send me an e-mail through my website. Thanks!
