Words of Wisdom from SharLeigh
HAVE FAITH IN
OUR COUNTRY!
In his Inaugural address, President John F. Kennedy said, “Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” The success of liberty! The definition of liberty is independence and freedom from a tyrannical government. That speech was made in 1961 and now it is 2010. What has happened to that brave and proud America? Many of us look around and see another America emerging. This is not the America that existed in our youth. What happened? Have we taken our freedoms for granted? When you take something for granted, it may disappear before your eyes and then you begin to miss what you so freely accepted as your right or privilege. Have we forgotten that it is a government by the people and for the people? Folks, we are the government. Have we become so lax that we feel the fate of our lives depends on what the politicians can do for us? In that same Inaugural address, President Kennedy stated, “My fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” That does not in any way reflect the “entitlements” that we have come to expect today. There was a time when our government leaders looked to us for guidance, but now many of our representatives feel that we do not understand what is good for us. What happened? Many of us stopped voting while others go to the polls uninformed. What a shame. It sounds like this nation deserves what it gets. But it is not too late. No more carelessness! This is our country – take pride in her and let no one take our strength and freedom from us. Hard work never hurt anyone, so let’s roll up our sleeves, make some sacrifices and take her back. We can do it! God Bless America!!
