A NEW DECADE AND
A NEW START

At the beginning of the 21st century, Americans were riding high – it seemed like everything just kept getting bigger and better.  But a year later this country lost that “Age of Innocence” after the 911 attacks.  On that day, we began to understand what it was to be at war.  Our enemies stated that they were not done – they wanted to attack our economy as well, and now we are feeling the decline of the dollar.  Our grandparents and parents faced a financial decline in the 1930s, and they faced it with courage and strength.  It may have seemed that the world was coming to an end, but it did not.  At the end of that decade was a year of slow recovery, and then WWII broke out.  People now call it the “Greatest Generation” but it was not so great – it was tough.  At times it seemed hopeless, but America not only survived, we conquered!  After that, we were so certain of our strength and position that we thought we would never face times like that again – but here we are.  So, how can America survive?  We need to look back and learn from the past.  It was the determination of the people that got this country back on its feet!  Whatever it took – no job was too menial or small.  Many people lost everything, but they never lost their faith in America, so they fought to keep her alive.  Now it is our turn to fight.  We still are the torch of freedom – a light to many nations.  Do not be discouraged, but instead be vigilant.  It is up to us to save this country; it is up to us to vote in the right people to represent us.  We must stop being complacent and get this country back on its feet.  So, let us start out this decade with a positive outlook.  We are down for the moment, but America is not out!  We can pull this country back together, and like the Phoenix of old, we will rise from the ashes even better than before!
