NAVIGATING THE ROAD OF LIFE

There is a similarity between today’s dilemmas and Tule fog.  How so?  Tule fog settles in the Central Valley of California during the rainy season of the late fall and winter when the ground is wet and the winds are calm.  During this time of year one may be driving along and hit a wall of fog without warning.  The fog can be so thick that visibility drops as low as 10 feet.  Recently, life in America seems to have run into a thick wall of Tule fog.  Without warning oil prices went through the roof, the housing market collapsed, banks and financial institutions started to fail and the stock market plunged.  Financial conditions are so volatile that it is like driving into a fog bank on a clear night.  But do not throw out the baby with the bath water just yet.  Since the beginning of the 21st century events have not been stable, but this time everyone was caught sleeping.  Many people have lost much of their life savings, but it will return in time.  We have to have faith in America, but we shall not be as trusting as lambs to the slaughter.  Due to greed on Wall Street, some of the financial institution’s CEO’s walked away with big bucks – and many of those bucks were ours.  There is an old proverb that says, “Fool me once shame on you – fool me twice shame on me.”  We should have all learned through this experience that we have to be smart about who we trust with our investments.  Hopefully, by the time you are reading this, action is being taken by the Federal Courts concerning the bad business practices that have prevailed on Wall Street over these last few years.  We also have to be smart about our leaders.  Everyone has a duty to this country to be aware of what is happening in Congress.  We must be watchdogs.  We became lazy and it bit us in the butt!  Yes, today’s dilemmas are like Tule fog – and when navigating through both conditions, we should use our ears to listen carefully when we cannot depend on our eyes to see what is coming at us!
