Words of Wisdom from SharLeigh

ANOTHER BIG ELECTION YEAR

Can you believe it is that time again? This is the time for voters to come forth and elect a leader for our nation. Sometimes we wonder if we are choosing the right leaders, but each election year we as a nation come forward and show the world how strong we truly are. Below are some memorable quotes from former Presidents. As you read, think about the current political climate. Get away from the mud-slinging and follow your instincts, because America is made of our blood, sweat and tears. As you have heard many times, without us there is no US!

• George Washington - “Tis our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances, with any portion of the foreign world.” (1796)

• Thomas Jefferson - “He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world’s believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good dispositions.” (1785)

• William Henry Harrison - “I contend that the strongest of all governments is that which is most free.” (1829)

• Abraham Lincoln - “Fellow citizens, we cannot escape history.” (1862)

• Ulysses S. Grant - “To maintain peace in the future it is necessary to be prepared for war.” (1886)

• Rutherford B. Hayes - “Nothing brings out the lower traits of human nature like office seeking.” (1878)

• Theodore Roosevelt - “Every reform movement has a lunatic fringe.” (1913)

• William H. Taft - “The world is not going to be saved by legislation.” (1916)

• Franklin D. Roosevelt - “A good leader can’t get too far ahead of his followers.” (1940)

• Harry S. Truman - “You can not stop the spread of an idea by passing a law against it.” (1948)

• John F. Kennedy - “There is always inequity in life... life is unfair.” (1962)

• Ronald Reagan - “Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first.” (1977)

• George H. Bush - “Read my lips, no new taxes.” (1988)

• Bill Clinton - “Depends on what your definition of is is.” (1998)
