Moving Forward with Quiet Resolve One never understands when the certainty of a tiny seed starts to germinate in one’s spirit. How long did that seed stay tucked away in the heart? Years? Months? Days? Moments? There is no fanfare, cheering crowds, brass bands, banners or fireworks. The resolve is more like fog creeping up on cat paws. At first there is confusion, like being on a boat in a storm-tossed sea. One cannot stand upright; your mind cannot orientate because everything is bouncing around wildly. There is no order - just chaos. Where does one start when there is no beginning or end? When the path is not marked, how does one put down the first mark? Some say that out of chaos comes order, but when one is in the middle of the storm it seems like it will never end.
The respite is in the eye of the storm; we are allowed to “catch our breath” and relax. The quiet is such a welcome from the cacophony of the storm. It’s as if a hand from above has released us from nature’s grasp. It is in these moments of quiet that our minds can start to orientate to the situation. Life can be a storm; so many times we are blind-sided by situations out of our control. Many times when we think back at a certain moment in time we think to ourselves “if only” I had reacted this way or that way. But one can never repeat a situation, only move forward to the next. Many people do not know how to move on - they are forever caught in the “if onlys”. These “if onlys” can take power over our lives and stop us from moving forward.
How does one stop the stagnation of life? Is it not easier to stay with the familiar? Is it not safer? As children we were bold and brave. But as adults we repress that child within us with the doubts and insecurities of the world. They seem to rush into our souls like floodwaters. How does one break that cycle? We are so enmeshed in the day-to-day issues, how does one walk away from the commotion and noise? One must learn to be still, absolutely still, with no sounds or interference. Once we are still then the mind and body are at peace. With this peace we may look around and be thankful for all the love and beauty that surrounds us! How many times have you stopped to observe the iridescences and symmetry of a spider web that has captured the morning dew?
Quiet resolve is a gift that is not easily obtained; our walk in life is never an easy one. The gift is to trust and release the tight grip of control on life. That is a test of true character. So often we are a like a stumbling child learning to walk - taking a handhold from one piece of furniture to another, so very careful to hold on for dear life in fear of failure. Then, something deep inside gives that child the assurance to release their grasp, enabling them to walk - and then run. As with us, when we release our insecurities and fear of failure, then we too shall start to walk and finally run! - SharLeigh
