READERS AND THEIR RIGS - JANUARY 2006Enjoying the Best of Both Worlds This month’s Readers And Their Rigs comes to us from Kevin Greene (36) of Cincinnati, Ohio. Kevin, who has been a driver for Roadway Express for ten years, runs a company truck between Cincinnati and Nashville five to six times a week. But on the weekends, he slips behind the wheel of his bright red Peterbilt and goes down the road with his 5th wheel travel trailer in tow. Three years ago, Kevin bought the 1990 Peterbilt 379 Extended Hood pictured here because he always wanted a rig of his own to fix up. Not quite ready to leave his job, he decided instead to use it for recreational purposes. Over the years, Kevin has added many “extras” to the truck, including full stainless steel fenders, almost 60 LED lights, a 16-inch drop visor, Double JJ headlight brackets with 359-style double round lights, Double JJ blinker bars and 7-inch straight pipes. Propelled by a mechanical 444 Cummins engine with 500 horsepower, a 15-speed double overdrive transmission and 3.70 rears, this rig has plenty of power to pull Kevin’s camper as fast as he wants to go (to say the least). The trailer is a 36-foot All American Sport Camper with a garage in the back to haul Kevin’s Harley motorcycle. Kevin and his wife Crystal, who have been married for ten years, take the truck, trailer and motorcycle camping everywhere. “When we get to the campsite, we unload our bike and ride wherever we want to go. I have the best of both worlds. Now I can drive a truck I am proud to own and still get to relax at the same time,” said Kevin. For many years, Kevin has been attending the Mid America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY. In 2004, Kevin stumbled upon our booth and picked up some magazines, which he really liked. Ever since, he has become an avid surfer of our website. We’d like to thank Kevin for his support and hope to meet him this year at the show. Copyright
