READERS AND THEIR RIGS - AUGUST 2005Jason Shelly’s Dirty Diaper Express This month’s Readers And Their Rigs comes to us from Jason Shelly of Telford, Pennsylvania. We first met Jason at the truck show in Louisville last March. He came to our booth and had a lot of nice things to say about the magazine. He also had a lot to say about his awesome rig, but it was his story that attracted our attention. Jason is a full-time “Mr. Mom” and a part-time owner operator. He and his wife Renita have a 14-month-old son named Bryce who Jason takes care of while his wife works a full-time job at her family’s truck dealership. Jason, who is a third generation trucker, loads LTL freight on Monday afternoon and then delivers 6-8 stops in the Cleveland area. He then reloads on Tuesday in Ohio and delivers Wednesday morning back near home, after which he returns to resume his “Daddy Daycare Duties” for the rest of the week. He often takes little Bryce along with him - he’s been taking trips in daddy’s truck since he was six weeks old. Out on the road, Jason is known by many as “The Dirty Diaper Express” because of the occasional stops he makes to replace Bryce’s rear filter. He feels very fortunate to be able to do what he loves and still spend a lot of time with his family. Jason’s 2000 K-Dub is long, low and a little bit retro, as he puts it. Featuring black paint and lots of chrome and stainless, an 18-inch bumper that sits just five inches off the dirt, classic white striping, and a matching old-style black 2002 Great Dane spread-axle reefer with all the extras, this combo definitely fits under the description “cool truck” - and then some. Jason is quick to give God all the glory for what he has and thanks Him daily for the blessings in his life, which he says is, “Surrounded by mercy, protected by prayer.” Amen! Keep on truckin’ brother, but, more importantly, keep on being a great dad. Copyright
