READERS AND THEIR RIGS - APRIL 2004

STAN’S ROCKY MOUNTAIN RIDE

This month’s Readers And Their Rigs comes to us from Stan Hogan of Stan Hogan Construction in Brigham City, Utah. Stan purchased this old 1959 Kenworth back in 1989 and began an eight year process of transforming it into the clean rig you see here today. When Stan bought the truck, it boasted a top speed of 47 mph. To get it more “up to speed” with today’s trucks, the Cummins 262 was rebuilt and the auxiliary transmission and rear-end were replaced (it now peaks out at around 75 mph - that’s a little better). The transmission is a 4x4 with overdrive and the rear-end is an Eaton with a 4:11 ratio. Stan also completely rewired the two-tone Cream Pearl and Palamino truck. As work permits, Stan tries to get the truck to three or four shows a year in the local Utah area, including the Great Salt Lake Truck Show, which is a fund-raiser for the Utah Kidney Foundation. This is where we first saw Stan’s truck, which took a 1st Place in the Best Lights and 1978 & Older Bobtail classes last year. Stan uses the truck on a daily basis, pulling a 26-foot Walton gooseneck trailer both on and off the road, to move heavy equipment between construction jobsites. His company, Stan Hogan Construction, specializes in grading. If you frequent Northern Utah or Southern Idaho, chances are you’ve seen this classic rig in action. Stan (and his truck) are proud members of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society. We hope to see Stan Hogan and his truck at the 25th Annual ATHS Convention in Fontana this May.
