Clean KW Lives A “Charmed” Life This month’s Readers And Their Rigs comes to us all the way from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Chris Schmidt of Wellfleet, MA owns and operates the beautiful 2003 Kenworth W900L pictured here, hauling sand, stone and other landscaping products to the two golf courses that his family owns - one on the West Coast and one on the East Coast. Chris admits that his ride lives a charmed life, being garaged or “on vacation” during the cold season out West. In fact, this truck has never experienced snow or road salt at all - and that’s the way Chris likes it. Featuring ample amounts of chrome and stainless and a neat mural (a picture of the truck under a moonlit night sky) on the back of the sleeper, the pristine light metallic blue rig, equipped with a 565 Cummins, 18-speed transmission and 3.55 rears, hauls either decorative stone in the Ravens dump trailer pictured here or sand, mulch or bark in an aluminum trailer he owns that is designed for lighter loads. Growing up in a construction/landscaping business environment, Chris has been around trucks and trucking most of his life. Early on, Chris knew that he wanted to drive a truck, and in 1992 he went to work for a long-haul operation where he traveled a million accident-free miles over the next eight years. In 2000, his father convinced him to come and work at the family business and that is what he still does today. Golf courses, as you might imagine, need a lot of constant maintenance, and its Chris’ job to make sure that all of the necessary materials arrive safe and sound. The truck works on a limited basis, which has freed Chris up to attend a few truck shows this year. Next year, if time permits, he hopes to compete at even more. We’d like to thank Chris for sending us a letter, and look forward to seeing him at some of the shows next year. |
