HECTOR'S
HOME This month’s Readers And Their Rigs comes to us from Hector Chans of Las Vegas, Nevada. With no time to be at home, Hector converted his 2000 Pete 379 into a rolling house. The truck, powered by a 550 Cat and an 18-speed transmission, features a 102” Indiana Custom sleeper that has everything Hector and his wife need to survive long trips out on the road, including hot and cold running water, toilet, shower and refrigerator. For those unknown areas, Hector installed an Alpine navigation system with a DVD player and XM radio. The teal green Pete has a 275” wheelbase, and Hector uses every inch of it. The exterior of the truck is adorned with massive amounts of chrome, 310 LED lights, 10-inch pipes and a Texas bumper. The sides of the sleeper feature a mural of an eagle holding an American flag in each of its talons. Pulling an eight-car trailer, Hector takes weekly trips to auctions in Oklahoma and Texas. Hector began driving trucks in Cuba in 1969, and then in the United States in 1978. When he and his wife do find the time to stop at home for awhile, they enjoy taking care of their over one hundred birds and, of course, they clean the truck - they’re always cleaning the truck. The truck has been in a couple shows, but Hector doesn’t have enough time to show it on a regular basis. In addition to the patriotic mural on the sleeper, Hector’s grille features an American flag screen. The words “God Bless America” were printed in bold letters at the bottom of the note he sent us. Hector is obviously a true patriot who loves his country. Hector and his wife enjoy trucking so much they never plan to retire. Hey, keep on truckin’! |
