Mikey
Doesn’t Like It - He Loves It
This month’s Readers
And Their Rigs comes to us from 11-year-old Mikey Stewart of Lancaster,
California. Mikey sent us a bunch of photos and a good description of
his parent’s work rig. The truck is a 1988 Peterbilt 378 with a custom
RV conversion, a 425 Cat engine and a 15-speed transmission. Outfitted
with a complete bathroom, kitchen and sleeping areas, the truck’s 144-inch
sleeper can comfortably accommodate five people. Underneath, the truck
has a custom
6-inch exhaust built by Mikey and his dad - Mikey wished they could
have put stacks on the truck but the rig’s configuration wouldn’t allow
it. A 3-cylinder generator provides all the power the family ever needs.
Extra lights and lots of chrome adorn both the truck and trailer’s bright
red exterior. The
trailer is a 48-foot S & S racing trailer with room for three cars
inside. Mikey’s parents, Mike and Christy Stewart, own and operate a
transmission shop in Lancaster which specializes in high-performance
and racing automatic transmissions and components. Mike himself has
a 229 mph alcohol dragster he runs to “test” his parts. About a year
ago, the Stewarts purchased this rig to haul their dragster and support
vehicles to races throughout the West - and Mikey couldn’t be more excited
about it. His dad thinks that Mikey likes the truck better than the
dragster! Mikey loves to ride in the truck and listen to the CB. His
mom got a Class A license just to drive it and dad now has his permit.
Every month, Mikey makes his mom drive him to the Butler Scales in Lancaster
to pick up the latest 10-4 Magazine. We may have a future trucker here!
Thanks Mikey. We wish you all the best - in whatever you choose to do.
