David’s Screaming Yellow Pete
This month’s “Readers And Their Rigs” is a beautiful company truck owned by S.J. Weaver. The bright yellow 1994 Pete 379 Dump, built and driven by David Ramirez of Covina, California, has over 750K miles and features a 500 Cummins and Super-10 transmission. Purchased a few years back as an OTR tractor with a sleeper, David and his boss Steve Weaver began the “project” by removing the sleeper and converting the tractor into a dump truck. Later on, David added a drop visor, headlight visors, 8-inch stacks, all clear-lens LED lights, polished full fenders and more. David removed the red Peterbilt emblems and soaked them in acetone overnight. This removed the red paint and left the emblems just chrome. David’s whole goal was to have everything on the truck either yellow, white or chrome. Stripping the emblems removed the last bit of “extra” color from the truck, leaving it looking very lean, mean and clean. We met David at the Irwindale Speedway truck show late last year where he was able to parade his truck around the oval track with the other nine finalists that made the top ten. At Palmdale’s Truckin’ For Kids show last year, David and his screaming yellow rig took top honors in the Dump Truck class. Hauling broken concrete from job sites at local gas stations, David keeps the truck looking good by spending about half an hour every morning getting it ready for the day, and then cleaning it throughout the afternoon as time allows. David is grateful for the generosity and friendship Steve has shown by allowing him to pretty much do as he pleases to the truck - and fund it all. S.J. Weaver is a petroleum contractor that retrofits fuel systems at gas stations, keeping them up-to-code and safe. David (35) has been with the company for about three years and driving trucks for five. |
