John T’s Bright Red Pride & Joy
This month’s “Readers And Their Rigs” comes to us from John T. Silva of Madera, California. John T. is the owner and operator of this beautifully restored 1970 Freightliner cab-over truck and trailer. The truck is powered by a 425 Cummins engine with a 13-speed transmission and a 4-speed Brownie. The truck is also equipped with a dual 6-inch exhaust system. The trailer is a 1990 Utility pull trailer. This truck has been totally restored and customized by John T. Raised all his life around trucks and the trucking, John T. has worked for the family business since he was old enough to pick up a wrench. In 1990 he became an owner operator and started Silva Hay. John T. does most of his own polishing, painting and mechanic work, with a little help from Bill Vigil of Vigil Truck Body in Fresno, California. He started restoring this old classic Freightliner 12 years ago - at the tender age of 16. He has spent many long hours customizing, polishing and cleaning his truck and trailer to make them look as good as they do today. Some of the bright red rig’s many features include 15 lights atop the cab, custom fabrication in and out, dual power windows, Mahogany steering wheel, billet
aluminum dash accessories (most of which were machined by John T. himself), polished aluminum wheels all around, polished tanks, visor and tool boxes, and quarter fenders. Great job John - and thanks for thinking of 10-4! If you’d like to be featured in “Readers And Their Rigs” send photos and information to: 10-4 Reader Rigs, P.O. Box 7377, Huntington Beach, CA 92615. Good luck!
