Tech Tips and Tid-Bits THE
END OF AN ERA On April 4, 2007 the final 1,000th Model 379 Legacy Class Edition Peterbilt was built and delivered to the proud (and lucky) owner. This final Model 379 marked the end of an era and the completion of its twenty-year run as an industry icon for quality, ground-breaking styling, prestige and legendary performance. Peterbilt Wisconsin, in its 37th year as a Peterbilt truck dealer, delivered the 1,000th Model 379 Legacy Class Edition to TWX Corporation based in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. The proud owners, Kevin and Laurie Hagenow, celebrated its production by accompanying the truck through the assembly process and bringing its engine to life as they drove the truck off the production line in Denton, Texas. The Hagenow’s have been in business for nearly a decade and operate a Peterbilt exclusive fleet, pulling flatbeds and drop-deck trailers. “We are proud to have been chosen to receive this historical truck,” said Kevin Hagenow. “It joins our Peterbilt-only fleet and will continue the quality and class image given to each and every customer we service and driver we employ.” The final 1,000th Model 379 Legacy Class Edition featured: multiple unique exterior Legacy Class Edition emblems on the grille and both sides of the cab; a custom dash plate inscribed with number 1,000; a polished aluminum hood centerline; premium UltraRide seats embroidered with the Legacy Class Edition emblem; the Platinum Oval Package which includes a punched oval-pattern grille and air cleaner intake screen, polished grille bars and stainless visor; the Premium Platinum Level interior; ConcertClass sound system with Sirius satellite radio; and the Peterbilt in-dash GPS Navigation System. Since 1986 Peterbilt has produced over 230,000 Model 379s, and as a testament to the quality and durability of this legendary truck, over 89 percent remain in operation serving customers today. The next legend, Peterbilt’s new Model 389, incorporates key styling elements of the Model 379 while adding new advanced technologies and refinements for improved aerodynamics. “The Model 389 raises the bar for styling, durability, serviceability and forward lighting. It carries all the class and legendary performance synonymous with the Model 379 and the other Peterbilt models, while reducing operating costs through better fuel economy,” said Bill Jackson, Peterbilt General Manager and PACCAR Vice President. The Model 389 features an all-new, lightweight, durable aluminum hood, a new one-piece aluminum surround with a punched-oval pattern grille and three polished aluminum grille bars, smooth polished aluminum fender reinforcements, innovative headlamps and a new aerodynamic hood ornament. The chassis has simplified routings to allow for easier access to service points, further improving serviceability. The new, aerodynamic, high-grade aluminum headlamps feature complex-reflector technology that increases forward lighting by 226 percent, helping reduce operator fatigue. Bulb life is improved by 600 percent. Long-life LED directional signals are integrated into the headlamp design. The lighting assembly is protected by a durable, impact-resistant lens cover. Peterbilt Motors Company, a division of PACCAR Inc, manufactures premium quality trucks for a wide range of markets, including over-the-road, construction, municipal and medium-duty.
