Tech Tips
and Tid Bits... Nothing spruces up your truck like a new eye-catching paint job. But anytime you take your truck to a paint artist, you are really at their mercy. The waiting is the worst part - imagining how it will look when it’s finished, hoping you will like it, and wondering what in the heck you’ll do if it looks bad. But what if it wasn’t completely permanent? What if you could make touch-ups, corrections and changes after the fact? What if you could wash the whole mural off and start again? Well, if you used Magic Colors new “Remove It” Permanent Paint System, you could. Magic Colors, a manufacturer based out of Roswell, Georgia, has recently introduced a revolutionary new removable paint that is easy to apply, won’t damage the original painted surface, and won’t come off until their unique removing agent is applied. It’s called Lacquerol, and it works exactly like urethane paint except that it is more versatile. I know it sounds too good to be true, but it really is. This paint goes on like normal paint and is just as durable, but it can be removed in minutes - either immediately after it dries or years later. Besides the ability to perform do-overs, there are also many other benefits that this paint has to offer. Unlike urethane paint, Magic Colors is non-toxic. It’s base is grain alcohol. This means that you can apply the paint in your own garage or living room or wherever. They say it actually smells like vanilla cookies, but we wouldn’t recommend tasting it. The product can be used for painting murals, graphics or entire vehicles, and once the paint dries, like any other paint, it is permanent, until you apply their special remover which breaks down the polymers in the paint. The unique paint works on various surfaces including metal, concrete, ceramics and plastics, and is available in several stock colors. Magic Colors also specializes in color matching and can match any desired color from any type of sample, digital image, paint books or photographs. The paint is tested durable for up to four years but, with good care and maintenance, could last much longer. Another neat feature is that the paint can be buffed to a mirror shine. Magic Colors also offers a non-toxic clear coat that can be buffed as well - and, of course, can be removed. If you are an aspiring artist but have been afraid to “give it a try” in fear of messing up an expensive vehicle’s paint job, now you don’t have to worry about it. Give painting a try and then practice, practice, practice. Want a special mural or message on your truck for one truck show - go for it. Are you an owner operator that changes companies often? Now you can paint their name on your door very professionally and then remove it the following month when you’ve moved on to bigger and better things. Or maybe you own a fleet of trucks and have drivers. Do you think the good drivers might stay longer if you offered them an incentive - say, their name or C.B. Handle painted on the side of their particular truck? The sky is the limit with this stuff. Pictured on this page is a finished mural of a white tiger that was air-brushed by artist Penny Towner on the side of a Peterbilt sleeper. Also pictured here, we see the mural half removed. As you can see, there is no visible evidence that the mural was ever even there. Unlike urethane paints (or vinyl lettering for that matter), Magic Colors’ molecular structure allows some light to pass through. What this means is that if you remove some lettering or a mural after it was on your truck for a year or two, the paint underneath will be slightly faded like the rest of the paint on the truck. Ever see a truck that had vinyl lettering removed after it was on for a few years? It looks terrible, and can often require a total repaint to correct. If you would like to read a detailed and complete test of this product on a truck, go to www.custompaintandairbrushing.com and click on the Magic Colors link. Penny did a thorough review of the product and loved it. The U.S. military is so impressed with this paint that it uses it to paint their tanks for desert war games and Euro Disney uses it to paint props. If you still don’t believe it, listen to this: the paint is insured. If you use the product without mixing it with other products and you use the remover and follow the directions and it damages the under paint, they are insured to repaint the vehicle. Magic Colors’ insurance company tested the paint themselves before writing the policy and they have never had one claim. Now that’s confidence! Are you excited now? So let’s recap: Magic Colors “Remove It” Permanent Paint System goes on like normal urethane paint; is non-toxic; can be clear coated and buffed; can be removed in minutes; and comes with an insurance policy.
