MISC TRUCK SHOW REPORTS
Locals truckers lined up and down Manteca
at the annual Manteca Pumpkin Fair & Truck Show to raise funds for local
organizations and the Hays Truck Museum. Manteca Sunrise Kiwanis member Chuck
Harman organized the truck show, which was held on October 5th and 6th. Over
fifty trucks lined up around Library Park, in downtown Manteca, for all to enjoy.
Antique trucks dating back to the early 1900s were on display from the museum
and by members of the American Truck Historical Society.
Some of the more notable names in attendance
included Mountain Valley Express, Panella Trucking, Redfearn Trucking, Ed Rocha
Transportation, DOT Foods, Summit Logistics and many local trucking companies.
The event was sponsored by many local companies and the California Trucking
Association. The Pumpkin Fair has been an annual fund-raiser for the city of
Manteca for the last 18 years, raising money for several charities and organizations.

26th Annual
U.S. Diesel Truckin'
Nationals Rock Englishtown, NJ
Imagine this - over 1,500 trucks and over
30,000 people at a one-day truck race! For those of you who have never been
to Englishtown, you're missing out. September 14th was the date and Old Bridge
Township Raceway Park in New Jersey was the site for the 26th Annual U.S. Diesel
Truckin' Nationals.
For the pro classes this year, Wayne and John Talkington brought out their Lucas Oil sponsored Kenworth and ran an incredible 12.48 at 108 mph. Gary Ries brought out his beautiful Super Boss. Sadly, during time trials, the turbo charger gremlins struck. Telmo Abrev brought his Scania. Yes, a Scania. Jeff Garmon from Georgia and Doug Sotiro from New York brought out their pro pickups. Jeff ran an 11.75 but Doug had problems during time trials and couldn't finish.
The finalists for the working class were
both Diesel Drag Racing Association (DDRA) members - Mike Bolen from Kansas
and Sonny Trapp from Maryland. Both are two of the league's most consistent
racers. The King of the Hill win went to Mike Bolen after Sonny had premature
acceleration (red light).
Next year Englishtown will have two events
- one on May 10th and another on September 13th. For those of you who didn't
come this year, you need to make a point to attend next year's events. It is
a fun day for all.
