DecTechTips1Many believe that the Trucking Industry’s most pressing, serious and costly problem is truck driver health. This affects not only the drivers and their families, but the industry as a whole, as well. As truck driver health continues to decline, the need for a real solution continues to rise. Enter Coach Carolyn (Carolyn O’Byrne), the wife of a second-generation trucker who works with drivers one-on-one, through her book, and through her strategies focusing on their physical and emotional health.

At the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, TX last August, on the Health Pavilion stage, Coach Carolyn debuted her driver-focused strategies as solutions to the crisis of truck driver health. She and her husband have been affiliated with the trucking industry for 20 years, which has given her the upper hand concerning on-the-road struggles with health and wellness.

Truck driver health is not just a job to Coach Carolyn, it is a heartfelt mission. Her father-in-law lost his life on the road as a truck driver due to not taking care of himself. She wants to do whatever it takes to prevent similar tragedies, not only for the drivers, but for the families who might get “that call” one day like her family did.

Putting health as a top priority is difficult for many, but necessary for quality of life. Being in the truck day in and day out poses a challenge not only for adequate movement and exercise, but also for finding foods that keep nutrition up and weight down. These situations are all too common, but current tactics sadly are not working for many.

But physical health is not the only challenge here – emotional health is also in crisis. Modern technology helps in some ways and hurts in others. Cell phones have contributed to families being able to stay more connected, yet texting has in many cases taken the personalization out of the equation.

DecTechTips2Anxiety, depression, anger and PTSD are common struggles for people living out on the road. These concerns tend to grow as a driver withdraws him or herself away from society. Being in a truck every day by themselves makes it easy for folks to withdraw from previous connections and relationships, which in turn increases the struggles within.

Coach Carolyn has seen these and other issues up close and personal and works with drivers not only one-on-one and through her “Gut Instinct” book, but now has expanded her products to include online strategies to defeat these challenges. Coach Carolyn realizes the need to create informative and simple online strategies to improve the health and well-being of the individual drivers, as well as assist trucking companies that want to increase retention, which in turn improves their bottom line.

After the success of her trucker focused book called “Gut Instinct” was published in 2016, Coach Carolyn has been approached by numerous drivers for more. So, she spent most of 2019 putting together years of information and strategies to give them more. These strategies are made with the truck driver in mind, catering to their long and unpredictable schedules. Online and available 24/7, these strategies make it convenient, having nothing for drivers to keep up with or clutter the truck.

These recently completed online strategies are: “Driven To Health” – a systematic approach to gaining true and lasting physical health and attaining optimal weight; “Driven To Peace” – an in-depth yet simplified journey through the process of overcoming anxiety, depression and various anger issues while supporting emotional healing; and “Driven To Stop” – a step by step strategy to stop the use of tobacco for good.

These strategies are not only for individual drivers and their families but can also be customized to meet specific concerns for each trucking company. Promoting support and driver retention while providing a solution for the many drivers who are ready to commit to a better lifestyle and quality of life makes drivers feel valued. Replacing drivers is expensive, but drivers who feel valued tend to stay. On top of that, drivers that are in good health are more productive. Everyone wins!

Never before in our history has the topic of better health been so popular. In 2017, Amazon bought the largest health food store in the world for $14 billion. The proof is in the pudding. But the trucking industry is behind. Why? Are drivers less important? Coach Carolyn thinks not! She wouldn’t have products in the health food stores if it weren’t for truckers. “My heart is for the drivers,” says Coach Carolyn. “The way I see it, truck driver health is a win/win/win situation. Trucking companies improve driver retention, customers are more satisfied with happy drivers and last but not least, drivers live better lives.”

As Carolyn says, “It’s not just about better health, it’s about a better you!” Change is hard but be brave and make that first step to get in touch with Coach Carolyn – you will not regret it.
