What a crazy world we are living in these days! People seem to be easily offended… and even more eager to offend. There seems to be no room in this huge country for diversity in opinions, and with the choices we are left with for our next president, all hope of national dignity seems to be lost. However, it’s important to remember that our politicians are not our Creator – nor are they our Savior. As much as they’d love to try, they don’t dictate who we are or how we think. We are Americans, regardless of who sits in the White House. We may disagree about this or that, but we don’t need to divide from one another. The enemy would love to turn us against ourselves – that’s how we collapse. It seems like the mainstream media is eagerly shoving this division of class warfare, gender and racial drama, and political satire down our throats, while they profit on the chaos such things create. We don’t have to partake, folks. We can cling to our personal beliefs, traditions and values, all while treating each other with a dose of decency and respect. This poem is not trucking related – it’s more like just some thoughts I’ve had about the direction our country seems to be headed. Our politicians may, or may not, be running our country into the ground (depending on your point of view), but we are all still individual human beings – whether we are neighbors, family, or perfect strangers. Whatever the case may be, at this point, we are still “allegedly” free – free to just be ourselves. So, you be you, and I’ll be me. Let’s treat each other with some decency – please!
YOU BE YOU – I’LL BE ME

Let me make myself perfectly clear,
Since this is an election year.
Some like her, some like him,
You may like neither one of them.
Regardless of your ballet choice,
Everybody has a voice.
There’s a preference for each kind of flavor,
But politicians are not our savior.
You live your life, I’ll live mine,
We can get along just fine.
We won’t agree on everything,
But why not just let freedom ring!
One man works, another man won’t,
Some want handouts, some folks don’t.
Some will fight for what is good,
Some folks think they never should.
He said this, and she said that,
Is that where our hearts are at?
Disagree but don’t divide,
Or simply just don’t pick a side.
Aren’t we free to think out loud,
To worship, praise, or just be proud?
Choosing a president elect,
Need not cause such discontent.
They don’t rule us, don’t you know,
We tell them, which way to go.
For every policy they wield,
Another liberty must yield.
Let’s be neighbors, let’s be friends,
Let’s be proud Americans.
Let’s not raise our hands to strike,
Let’s be different or alike.
Let’s remember who we are,
In a church or in a bar.
On the left or on the right,
Rainbow colors, black or white.
Let’s express our liberty,
You be you, and I’ll be me.
And if we tend to disagree,
I thank God that we’re still free!
