JulyOTTpicThis 1966 Peterbilt worked hard all its life. It was purchased new by Irving F. Jensen Paving Co. in Sioux City, Iowa, and was used to move their batch plants from job site to job site. The Pete also pulled a Load King low-boy trailer, hauling road graders, loaders and crawlers. During its career, the truck had only three drivers and stayed busy until 1994, when Jensen started hiring trucks to move their plants. Todd Crouse of Lake View, Iowa, was one of those three drivers. He said, “One of Jensen’s batch plants might move as many as 15 times in one summer, so we stayed busy.” Todd bought the Peterbilt in 1998 intending to restore it but didn’t have the time or money for the project. Todd’s father bought it, and together, the father and son duo worked on restoring the truck. They pulled off the cab and hood in order to perform a complete restoration that took almost two years and included fabricating many of the needed parts. The Pete is equipped with a Detroit 6V71 318 engine, a Spicer 4×4 transmission, Rockwell 4.88 ratio rear ends, Peterbilt air-leaf suspension, an aluminum frame and hydraulic steering. Todd bought the truck back from his dad in 2008 and now enjoys showing off his prized possession Peterbilt. To see more “weird and wonderful” old time trucks, visit www.oldtimetrucks.org today.
