Do You Have What It Takes?

Being featured in a well-known publication is certainly exciting – the bragging rights are always fun, and the notoriety is coveted by many. But, what’s even better is being chosen as the cover feature! That’s when you feel like you’ve finally hit the big time! But I wonder how the rigs feel about it – after all, it’s their grill, chillin’ front and center for all to see – and what about the trucks that think they’re all that, but just don’t meet the coveted, cover-worthy criteria? This month’s poem is another silly parody that I hope you’ll enjoy. But, before you do, I urge you to listen to the song that inspired it – go to www.youtube.com and search for Dr. Hook’s “Cover of the Rolling Stone” song. Once you get the rhythm flowing in your mind (or if you already know it), read this poem. I hope you enjoy my parody called, “Cover of the Next 10-4!” Not every truck can make the cover, but if you think yours has what it takes, send them a picture and a little information about you and your rig – they are always looking for “diamonds in the rough” or other trucks that might not be out in the public (or truck show) eye. And remember, it’s not always just about the truck – it is about the owner, as well, so if you have a good story, they would love to hear it. COVER OF THE NEXT 10-4!
    By Trevor Hardwick

Well, I’m a big black semi, I got chrome and blingers,
And I’m loved everywhere I roll.
A thing of real beauty and a beacon of youth,
With ten thousand diodes or more.
I take all kinds of hills, with power to the gills,
But the thrill I’ve never known.
Is the thrill that’ll getcha, when you get your picture,
On the cover of the next 10-4!

    Next Ten-Four…
Wanna see my picture on the cover…
Better swipe five copies for my mother…
    Gonna see my shining grill…
On the cover of the next 10-4!
(That’s a very, very good idea!)

I got a freaky chrome lady, I gross more than 80,
I’ve got winches, hooks and chains.
I’ve got my poor old kitty-catty,
    Towing most anything.
I can haul your ride, and blow your mind,
I can blind your eyes with chrome.
I’m the king of rubberneckers, but I can’t get my wrecker,
On the cover of the next 10-4!

    Next Ten-Four…
Wanna see my picture on the cover…
Better swipe five copies for my mother…
    Gonna see my shining grill…
On the cover of the next 10-4!
    (Oh, that’s beautiful!)

Well there’s a lot of little shiny, cleaned up wagons,
And some have seen their better days.
But they’re designed to hook to you,
    And haul anything that pays.
And with all the trends, that money can buy,
Tons of lights and lots of chrome.
Ya’ know I’d like to hitch-ya, but ya’ can’t get my picture,
On the cover of the next 10-4!

    Next Ten-Four…
Wanna see my picture on the cover…
Better swipe five copies for my mother…
    Gonna see my shining grill…
On the cover of the next 10-4!
On the cover of the next 10-4!!

Good little piece about making the cover of,well almost any motor related magazine. ,too have been obsessed with all things trucking since I was a kid.No history of drivers in my family but running up and down the road has been a part of my life for 30 years.I run a 4200 Durastar for a communications company that keeps the celluar phone systems up and running.I still draw custom tractors and such.
