SAME SHOW - NEW HOME
ANNUAL FUNDRAISER MOVES INDOORS

The 17th Annual Great Salt Lake Truck Show, held August 11-12, 2006 found a new home this year inside the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy, Utah - and the timing couldn’t have been better. Outside the comforts of the climate-controlled convention center, temperatures and humidity levels soared and then a severe thunderstorm (which dropped an inch of rain in fifteen minutes and produced quarter-sized hail) moved into the area. Everyone at the show was glad that there was a roof over their head (and trucks).

Each year, Jeff England of Pride Transport in Salt Lake City, along with a small army of helpers, puts on this show to raise money for the Kidney Foundation and send kids to “Kidney Kamp” in the Utah mountains. Annually, the money raised pays for about 200 children who have kidney failure and are on dialysis awaiting a transplant, to attend the exciting retreat. “Kidney Kamp” gives these sick children an opportunity to get away from the hospital for a while, with their family, and enjoy the great outdoors. Over the years, this show has raised over $400,000 for the cause.

Inside the expo center, 60 trucks competed for trophies and bragging rights. Some of the notable winners included Dino Guadagni and his 1954 Kenworth (photo 3), Kendall Curtis and his black 2005 Pete 379X covered with murals (photo 4), Nick Mitchell’s purple Freightliner adorned with superheroes of all shapes and sizes (photo 2), and several of Jeff England’s own trucks, including his neat old 1984 Kenworth W900A and a couple new trucks. Jeff debuted a rust-colored 2005 Pete 379 (photo 1) and a blacked-out 2007 Freightliner Classic, both hooked to matching trailers, at the show. Jeff sure knows how to build ‘em! In addition to the trucks, there was a silent auction, a raffle, the famous cab races and a bunch of vendors and exhibitors inside. Next year’s show is scheduled for August 10-11, so mark your calendars, as you won’t want to miss this one. We’d like to thank the folks at Sportsline Photograph in Salt Lake City, Utah for providing us the pictures here. They made our job a lot easier. And this year’s winners were:
