OLD CABOVER ENJOYS

ITS RETIREMENT

By Old Truck Nuts John & Shirley Sponholtz

Hard work is something most trucks know how to do, and this cool 1977 International 4070B Transtar II cabover, owned by Wayne Dguck of Rutherford, New Jersey, is no exception.  Powered by a 290 Cummins diesel engine backed by a 10-speed Roadranger transmission, the International hauled auto parts and general freight for most of its life.  In 1998 it was parked in a field in Boone, North Carolina for about three years until it was pulled out and taken to a car dealer’s lot and offered for sale on e-Bay.  Wayne bought the Transtar and drove it home to New Jersey from North Carolina.  He got held up at the Maryland scales for nearly an hour while the weigh master there tried hard to find a violation, but couldn’t spot any problems.  By the time he got home, Wayne had three flat tires on the rear axles!  The International cabover now has new tires, new springs on the front, a new radiator and new hoses.  Soon it will receive a new paint job and will enjoy its much-deserved retirement by attending truck shows and other displays.  To see and read about more cool and unique old trucks, get a copy of Old Time Trucks magazine or visit them online at www.oldtimetrucks.org today.
