JUNE 2010 OLD TIME TRUCKS

A UNIQUE RESTORATION TEAM

By Old Truck Nuts John & Shirley Sponholtz

It is not unusual for brothers or fathers and sons to share an interest in trucks, but it is not often that we find a father-daughter team restoring old trucks together, like this 1936 Indiana Model 86 delivery truck.  Linda Witherstine of Felton, Delaware, has been around trucks her entire life because her father was a truck driver until he retired.  She and her dad do their truck restorations in the garage behind their house, which is where they performed a frame-off restoration of the Indiana truck shown here.  Learning the history behind the trucks has been fun for Linda, and old Indianas interest her because they are so rare.  Only in production from 1911 to 1939, the Indiana Truck Company became a subsidiary of Brockway in 1927, but still produced trucks under the Indiana name.  By 1932 Brockway needed to sell Indiana, so White bought the company and moved the entire operation to Cleveland, Ohio.  However, the marquee only survived a few more years and ceased production in 1939.  Linda and her father have restored several Indiana trucks and enjoy sharing the old truck hobby.  To see and read about more cool and unique old trucks, get a copy of Old Time Trucks magazine or visit them online at www.oldtimetrucks.org today.
