A NEW RIDE
GETS AN OLD LOOK Clint Moore’s latest creation is what he calls “an obnoxious-colored” 2007 Peterbilt 379 built for Jim & Susan Lane of Brookfield, Missouri. The Brookfields have been one of Clint’s most longtime and loyal customers, and they are known to have owned some interesting looking rigs - their last one was pink with purple flames. In the past, Jim was the one who chose the colors for the trucks, but this time Susan and one of their children, Brice (20), decided it was their turn to pick. Susan and Brice went down to Clint’s office and started rummaging through his old literature and paint books and found a cool “heartbeat” paint scheme from 1979. As it turns out, 1979 was the year that both Jim and Susan graduated from high school and the year that they got married, so it seemed like a perfect choice. The truck was ordered with a 625 Cat, a 63-inch flat top sleeper and Bright Orange paint. The stripes were added in the shop after delivery. They also installed 7-inch flat cut pipes, a drop visor, nine bullet lights, cab and sleeper panels and WTI fiberglass rear fenders. Then, they chopped the tops of the air cleaners, reskinned the passenger-side door without a peep hole, powdercoated the deck plate and tanks, and added a 359 polished center strip down the top of the hood. Jim and Susan had the pleasure of going to the Peterbilt plant in Denton, Texas to watch their truck get built. They were amazed at the care and attention that every employee took with their soon-to-be new ride. Growing up on a farm, Jim tried being a farmer but just couldn’t get trucking out of his blood. Jim and Susan, who also have a 23-year-old daughter named Brandi, use this rig to pull a reefer between Missouri and the Northeast. This latest truck is a far cry from Jim’s first - a 1978 Freightliner cabover with no power steering and a spring suspension. Jim is happy that those days are over! Copyright ©
