Today we are 15% through the 21st century and yet these times are not the future many of us envisioned. It is a time for great advancements, but some of this new technology is turning into a double-edged sword – especially in regards to the internet and social media. It only takes a few keystrokes to set your opinions on a journey throughout the world, to interact with strangers whose philosophy is completely opposite of the United States. Most adults know when they are in too deep, but what about our teenagers and young adults? Some are being romanced to change their beliefs, values and customs. These new beliefs are strange but enticing – after all, what harm is there if they just dip their toe in the water? Teenagers and young adults sometimes welcome a sense of adventure by being a bit bad. During these times of vulnerability, they are being encouraged to act out. Many young people feel dissatisfied and isolated from life, and because of that, they are the easiest targets for these “religious” zealots. As they listen to the rhetoric of this indoctrination, they are being lured into the belief that it is glorious to become soldiers for Jihad. Eventually, the indoctrination becomes acceptable and these ideals seem right. Why not fight for a great cause and sacrifice oneself for a job well-done? The division is in the generations – what is foreign to us resonates with some of our children. These terrorists have been trained at how to bring these young ones into their fold with promises of great glory. They scan the message boards and social sites looking for certain remarks, then they get to know the person and talk to them via internet phone programs. Once the trust is there, the hook is set and they begin to undermine our teachings, causing doubt in the young person’s mind. Next, many others of the same belief befriend these lonely ones and the attention overwhelms them. Now they feel that they truly belong and the real indoctrination begins. These terrorists are not weak – they have a plan and believe them when they say they are out to overthrow our way of life. They have already started with our children. Please, be aware… and be vigilant!
