Life is good, but it’s not always easy. The trucking profession can really try a person and test one’s patience and endurance. There’s no doubt that we can all be dealt a bad hand every now and then, but I believe that it is very important to CHOOSE to have a good day. Nothing can keep you down, unless you let it. I, personally, choose to lean on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as my strength to endure hard times, but I will admit that I’m guilty of forgetting to turn to Him, or give thanks to Him, in all of the situations I encounter along the way. Whether you share my beliefs or not, I would like to encourage you to draw on whatever healthy source that gives you strength to overcome a bad day and choose to make it an easy day. Think of the Lord. Think of your family. Think of your hobby. Or, consider the luxuries this job has to offer by way of a beautiful and ever-changing view out the windshield. Spring is finally in the air, and I love seeing the blooming trees and plants, the baby animals getting acquainted to their big new world, and the warmer weather. You might have had a terrible day yesterday, but as a very sweet friend of mine, Lindsey, always reminds me, today is a brand new day, with no mistakes in it. So, CHOOSE to have an easy day – after all, what do you have to lose except a lot of unwanted and unproductive anxiety and stress? An easy day is just a choice away!
AN EASY DAY
By Trevor Hardwick
Lord, I hope…
Today’s an easy day.
All my cares of yesterday,
Have all but gone away.
Up ahead…
I see the skies of blue.
Clouds are all behind me now,
And everything is new.
Sleepy towns…
Look vibrant in the sun.
Kids are in the schoolyards,
And they’re clearly having fun.
City limits…
Hear the echoes of my stacks.
My eyes fix on the highway,
And I ain’t-a-lookin’ back.
Lord, I hope…
Today’s an easy day.
Puffy clouds and amber waves,
And I just fly away.
Let these wheels…
Roll harmlessly along.
Remind me why I used to think,
The road’s where I belong.
Let me feel…
The rumble of the road.
Open up my mind to all,
The stories it has told.
Highway signs…
Say miles and miles to go.
That just gives me lots of time,
To see what You will show.
Vapor waves…
Are beckoning ahead.
Helping me forget about,
The worries I have shed.
Lord, I hope…
Today’s an easy day.
Make me more aware of all,
The blessings on my way.
Thank You, Lord!
For giving me this view.
And giving me an easy day,
To give it all to You!
