With well over 1,100 big rigs on the lot and hundreds of diesel pickups, the U.S. Diesel Truckin’ Nationals (USDTN) is one of the largest single-day trucking events on the planet. Held every year at Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey, this 37th annual event, presented once again by the folks at Elizabeth Truck Center, was held on Saturday, September 14.
The trucks and vendors began arriving on Friday, and by the time the sun came up on Saturday, the trucks were lined up for blocks at the gate. Once everyone got parked and settled, the party began. This truck show, in general, is one big tailgate party for many of the attendees. For the ones who want to participate in the truck beauty contest, there is a special drive-through judging area (not everyone in attendance is judged – just those who want to be). By the end of the day, after several hundreds of trucks had been judged, the trophies were handed out.
Throughout the day, there was a lot to see and do. In addition to the seemingly endless lines of trucks to look at and photograph, there was also a kid’s coloring contest, a sausage eating competition, vendor booths to visit, and plenty of great food to choose from. In the Elizabeth Truck Center area, which included many of their famous custom creations, they were selling t-shirts and sweatshirts at an amazing pace. And if all that was not enough, diesel pickups and big rigs were drag racing out on track all day long, too!
As the truck show portion of the event came to a close at dusk, the Motorsports Spectacular began. Featuring monster trucks, jet-powered cars and trucks, and the crowning of the “King of the Hill” big rig racing award, among other things, this long day truly ended on an exciting note (as it always does). If you have never been to this huge one-day event, we highly recommend it, because it is always one hell of a show! And the winners were:
