I recently almost got ran over by this cool cabover – it was Marty Lash driving for David Cross. His grandpa drove 35 years, his father 28 years and he himself 12 years (so far). And now his son started driving last year, too! I asked him what the first things he taught his son were when he got behind the wheel, and he said, “Watch out for the idiots, son, and stay outta them chicken coops, because your chicken if you go in!” And then he added, “My dad taught me how to drive and told me to work hard and don’t quit until the job is done, take care of the truck and it’ll take care of you, don’t follow too close and always leave yourself a way out, and that’s how I’m raising my kids.” And this is how the Spirit of the American Trucker gets passed from grandfathers to grandkids – simple rules of staying in business against the odds! Keep it simple, folks!!
