Shriners Hospitals for Children is an international health care system dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. The hospitals focus on four specialized areas of care: orthopedic care, burn care, spinal cord injury, and cleft lip and palate care. Shriners Hospitals for Children has a mission to provide the highest quality care to children with special healthcare needs within a compassionate, family-centered and collaborative care environment. This mission is carried out without regard to race, color, creed, sex or sect, disability, national origin or ability of a patient or family to pay. Their vision is to be the unquestioned leader, nationally and internationally, in caring for children. There are 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children across the country where children with specials needs can go to get the very best care – at no cost! Many people may wonder how they can get involved or help. Well, there is now a new organization called Big Rigs of the Shrine that was recently started exclusively for commercial truck drivers. You can join this new club if you have a valid CDL and submit your fee of $100. After that, there is a $25 annual membership fee. You will receive a set of truck-sized mud flaps with the Shriners logo, a license plate with your membership number on it, and a decal for your truck. All of the net proceeds from this endeavor will be sent directly to Shriners Hospitals for Children. To learn more about this new club (and Shriners in general), be sure to attend the Shriners Hospital Cool Truck Show in Galt, California on May 4-5. Not only will all of the proceeds from this event benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children, but the annual meeting for the Big Rigs of the Shrine will also be held during the show. Shriners will also be on-hand at the event to educate people about their organization. For more details about the show, visit www.cherokeetruckparts.com, and for more details about this new organization, visit www.bigrigsoftheshrine.com or call Terry McShane at (715) 697-9080. 10-4 Magazine will be there to support the cause and have some fun – we hope you will be there, too.
