Step right up folks. Are you tired of waking up in the morning and the first thought in your mind is bracing yourself for the news of the day? News that will surely pull you down in the dumps. But have no fear, this medicine will cure that feeling of hopelessness. What can that be? Well, step closer so I can enlighten you. That’s right, gather round now. How many of you are tense and ready to get into an altercation at a moment’s notice? It can be so bad sometimes that you feel the steam coming out of your ears. What would you say to an instant fix that will put a smile on your face and relax you for up to 45 minutes? If you think I am making this up and trying to sell you snake oil, you are wrong. This “medicine” is not classified, and there is more to this elixir than meets the eye. It can protect the heart, release endorphins (those are the happy feelings), and may give you a longer life. While we are at it, let us add that you can even lose some weight. Don’t leave just yet – I am about to tell you the secret. First, there is nothing to buy, so put your money back in your pockets, there is nothing to carry away, and it is absolutely FREE. You ask yourself, “What can this be? Nothing is free, not even a free lunch. What’s the catch?” No catch and no free lunch, as this is something you carry inside of you – it is called laughter. Nowadays, people do it less often, but a good belly laugh can set you up for a better day. The old saying that says “laughter is the best medicine” is right on. Without laughter life can be fairly grim. Here are a few good quotes about the benefits of laughter, lest we forget. Mark Twain, a man of the world, said, “Against the assault of laughter, nothing can stand.” A wise Jewish proverb says, “As soap is to the body, so laughter is to the soul.” Dr. Seuss, the most popular children’s writer said, “From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere.” And a most precious quote, by Ralph Waldo Emerson says, “Earth laughs in flowers.” Now you have the secret, so spread the merriment around, watch others laugh, and enjoy the good cheer. Let that laughter out, and don’t let the turkeys get you down.
