Howdy folks! Are you a fan of personal freedom? Perhaps you enjoy the individual freedom of making decisions for yourself? I don’t blame you. I’m guilty of that same train of thought that we are continually being shamed for. There is a time to merge as a collective, to make your voices louder, but that doesn’t mean we stop thinking as the freedom-loving individuals we are. Most of us just want to be honestly informed and then left alone to make our own decisions. We aren’t interested in bothering anyone else or being bothered. We do our jobs and then go home to our friends and family to live out our days in peace. But it is clear now that certain people in leadership positions have forgotten the boundaries of their duties, and they seek to impose their own will upon everyone else, as if one size fits all. Here in the US, we have all rolled our eyes at the idea that we would all stand together, as professional drivers, and shut these rigs down for a period of time, to let our voices be heard and remind the public officials how much they depend on us. The eye rolling happens because we all know that the idea is grand, but getting enough people to actually follow through would be virtually impossible. It has happened before, back in the 70s, but it seems unrealistic to coordinate such unity today. Oh, but wait! What’s that noise I hear coming from the northern horizon? It’s patriotic, freedom-loving Canadians, reminding us what it’s like to stand united for our precious liberties! How American is that! The sound of diesel engines filling the brisk Canadian air, as they rolled into Ottawa, must have been reminiscent of the patriotic drum roll as George Washington crossed the Delaware River! I’d just like to say a heartfelt thank you to all those people who have rolled in those convoys and/or showed up to support their cause. Rubber Duck would be so proud!
OTTAWA
By Trevor Hardwick
There are plenty of things,
That have come to my mind.
We’re letting our leadership,
Leave us behind.
We’re laying our liberties,
Down at their feet.
While political correctness,
Litters the street.
They’re mandating choices,
With no choice at all.
But the bigger they are,
The harder they fall.
Where are the truckers,
Who’ve proudly withstood?
The men and the women,
Who haul all the goods.
Back in the day,
They would stand for what’s right.
And keep the world turning,
All day and all night.
The cost of our fuel,
Just continues to rise.
With “those guys” in charge,
It should be no surprise.
Supply chains have stalled,
But our truckers still roll.
Let’s keep this in mind,
When we head to the poll.
I still remember,
When I was a kid.
Truckers were heroes,
Who did what they did.
Now where are the truckers,
So sturdy and strong?
With the plight of the people,
Unheard for so long.
They’ve come from the coast,
And they’ve come from the hills.
They crossed all the plains,
And they won’t stop their wheels.
They rolled into Ottawa,
Like thunderstorms would.
They’re gonna be heard,
As damn-well they should.
And all of those people,
Who’ve joined in their cause.
You have my respect,
And a round of applause.
You’ve taken your jabs,
Or you’ve just opted out.
And that’s what our personal,
Freedom is about!
Thank you for making them,
Quiver and shake.
Thank you for standing,
For liberty’s sake.
Thank you for standing,
For freedom, indeed.
And thank you for being,
The backbone we need!
