The year 2021 is ending and Christmas is upon us. Last year we could not wait for 2020 to end. We were hoping the year 2021 would be an improvement, but to our amazement, the year was more confusing and unbelievable. Since last year we have experienced problems with supply line shortages due to the lack of proper transportation, a worker shortage, and increased fuel costs (which also increases the cost of items that actually do make it to store’s shelves). Current indicators are leading us to believe that it is going to be a very sparse Christmas – around the table and under the tree. Santa may have a difficult time filling the requests of children. People have become upset and more frazzled than ever. Usually, it is a time for good cheer and goodwill to others, but it seems this holiday is lacking in that department. How can we get that feeling back again? It seems each day we hear more bad news than good. How can we lift our spirits? Take a moment and remember how the original celebration came about. At the time, there were no decorated Christmas trees or lights on the crude dwellings – just the bright star of Bethlehem, shining in the sky, pointing the way to the most precious miracle. Christmas carols were not playing in the homes. Instead, a host of angels were declaring God’s gift to mankind. In a stable fit only for beasts, was born a child, a very special child. This child was our Lord and Savior coming to earth as one of us. He was born for all mankind’s salvation to take away the sins of the world. It was a gift from God the Father foretold since the beginning of creation. The famous Hebrew 7th century prophet Isaiah prophesied of the Christ child’s birth. In Isaiah 7:14 it says, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel” – meaning God with us. Stop your worries and cares, pick up a Bible, and refresh your mind on the gift of Jesus. Through the centuries, the Christ child has taught us through his joyful spirit, good will, and love towards mankind. There was no greater love or sacrifice ever given. It truly was the most precious gift we have ever received. When we begin to understand the true meaning of Christmas, it is not as bleak as one perceives. Open your heart to the love Jesus has given you to understand the full joy of the Holiday. Look upon your blessings, not your woes, and Christmas will shine in your heart. May you learn to share the blessing of the Lord this year.
