Dedicated to His Dad, Harvey Hanson
Tony Hanson’s dad always encouraged him to seek a career outside of trucking, but Tony was hooked from the first time he rode along with his dad, Harvey, while still in diapers. Later, as Harvey watched his son work hard and succeed, he told him, “It takes guts to make a living being an owner operator. It’s a tough life. I’m proud of you – you’re doing it right!” Unfortunately, Harvey died in a tragic accident on May 22, 2015. For this, we dedicate this month’s “Spirit of the American Trucker” to Harvey Hanson, because this truly is the “spirit” of our industry – to honor those who have come (and gone) before us. “This is an honor for me after reading 10-4 every month since I began running California in 2003. And now, to be in the magazine is so cool, and as a tribute to my dad, it means even more.” Tony, we urge you to keep your dad’s spirit alive by continuing to be a beacon in our industry that shines a light both forward and back, because without strong roots, we cannot thrive.
