Evolving near the equator in a climate where freezing weather did not exist, we humans are a tropical species. The only reason we can survive these cold climates are because we have fire, clothing, housing, and trucks like this delivering 42 thousand boxes of strawberries from sunny California to the frozen Great Lakes region. Currently, there is no technology or food replacement for sun rays, and the sun is our most vital source of Vitamin D. A lack of sun exposure in the winter will make your autoimmune system weak and your body prone to many sicknesses, including cancer. Recent studies show that 77% of Americans are Vitamin D deficient. But we hard-working produce haulers can only do so much. Please, get out in the sun whenever you can. Just 20 minutes per day can change your health – and your life! And with all of the misery and cold this winter has brought us this year, I, for one, say, “Bring on the Vitamin D!”
