Dennis Mitchell knows that the worst threat we truckers face is the extinction of our own breed – and to drive that point home, he has an American buffalo painted on the top of his hood. Like the almost-extinct American buffalo, the American trucker’s future is now also in jeopardy! Since 1993, Dennis has driven his Peterbilt over 1.7 million miles and spread the word that we (truckers) are the last gypsies and cowboys of this land. With his son Steve, the Mitchells are organizing a convoy that will take place on September 12th in Grayling, Michigan, just before the St. Ignace truck show, in hopes that America’s “Young Guns” (the kids) will meet their “Big Heroes” (real truckers), and the torch can be passed. To find out more about this convoy, check out “Street Petes Convoy” on Facebook and then join the revolution!

I’m glad to see that there are still people who
Look up to the American Trucker and Respect what we do for them without the great USA and the Soldiers and Truckers and the Farmers our country would not be what it is God Bless us all
I was raised by a “Real American Trucker”. From him I learned to love trucks, trucking, and being around Truck Drivers. My Dad was courteous (to other Truck Drivers and 4-wheelers alike), always completely safe, and very careful with the equipment he drove. He had one accident in his career which was because he was trying to get to the side of a snow covered road so a grain hauler could pass. He drove from the age of about 17 (he was born in 1925) until he was about 62. If we really want to protect the American Truck Driver, we need to get back to those basic building blocks. Parking on the fuel pump because there is someone already on the yellow line, driving as fast as possible through the truck stop parking lot, pulling into the left lane without regard to whom may be coming up behind are not things which are going to kill anyone. They are, however, indicative of the attitude of today’s drivers.
These driver training companies can help by slowing down and teaching some of these basic building blocks along with the basics of driving rather then just pushing out “trained drivers” as fast as they can.
