Are you tough enough to drive a pink truck? If so, buy some fundraiser tickets and roll the dice, because if they call your name in March at the truck show in Louisville, you could be the proud owner of a highly-customized pink and black Peterbilt. Performance Diesel Inc. (PDI) out of St. George, Utah, with help from several sponsors, built the truck and have been selling fundraiser tickets for it to raise money (and awareness) to help fight breast cancer and find a cure. The truck is a completely rebuilt 2001 Peterbilt 379, with an estimated value of around $80,000 – and it can be all yours for the price of just one $10 raffle ticket (or a few more).
This fundraiser is for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrfcure.org), a not-for-profit organization founded in 1993. The mission of the BCRF is to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by providing critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research at leading medical centers worldwide, and increase public awareness about good breast health. BCRF-funded research has helped save lives and significantly improved the quality of care and survivorship for thousands of breast cancer patients in the past two decades.
All of the money raised will be donated to the BCRF. Various members of the trucking industry came together and covered all of the costs associated with the rebuilding of this truck. Sponsors include: Performance Diesel Inc. (PDI), Jones Performance, Bridgestone, Twelve Gauge Customs, ASET, PPG Paint, IDEAL Distributors, Lincoln Chrome, 4 State Trucks, Valley Chrome Plating, NOVUS Glass, Bloomer Trailers, Setco LIPE Clutch, Bad Ass Custom Truck Parts, Best Deal Spring Inc., Dura-Lite Radiators, National Seating, Lifetime Nut Covers, FASS, Kenworth of St. George, Parts Plus, Stars & Stripes Show Truck Events, PKY Truck Beauty Championship, and Rainbow Sign & Banner.
The pink truck with a stand-up sleeper and black fenders is powered by a strong Cummins Signature ISX engine (painted pink) with a PDI Stage 1 turbo kit and ECM tune, an 18-speed transmission, and a high-performance LIPE clutch. It also features a custom drop visor and air-ride from Twelve Gauge Customs, painted body drop panels, Lincoln Chrome exhaust, a custom hood and front fenders from Jones Performance, and custom paint by PPG. In addition to painted tanks and air cleaners, the exterior also features plenty of “old school” pinstriping. Bridgestone fit the truck with all new rubber, Valley Chrome provided the front bumper, and Bad Ass Custom Truck Parts donated the fiberglass rear fenders. The interior features a painted floor and painted dash panels by 4 State Trucks, a custom-painted white and pink steering wheel, and black leather seats provided by National Seating.
The breast cancer awareness truck made a cross-country tour of America last year, traveling to the Great West Trucking Show in Las Vegas, NV, the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, TX, the Big Iron Classic in Kasson, MN, Truckin’ For Kids Show & Drags in Irwindale, CA, the Golden State Trucking Expo in Pomona, CA, PDI’s Customer Appreciation Dyno Event & Pride and Polish Contest in St. George, UT, and the National Finals Rodeo/Cowboy Christmas in Las Vegas, NV. Fundraiser tickets were sold at all of these events, and a few others, throughout the year. In March of 2013, at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY (March 21-23), the final tickets will be sold, the winner will be drawn, and then the truck will be given away. The winner does not need to be present to win, but it is always better when they are!
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death due to cancer. The American Cancer Society’s most recent estimates for breast cancer in the United States for 2012 show that the chance of a woman having an invasive breast cancer some time during her life is a little less than 1 in 8. Please help PDI support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and donate today. Fundraiser tickets are available for sale at $10 each, or additional tickets can be purchased at a discounted rate of three for $25, seven for $50, or 16 for $100. There is no limit, so please feel free to give generously! Charity tickets can be purchased in person at the Louisville truck show this March, or at PDI’s headquarters located at 687 N. Industrial Rd., St. George, UT 84770 (or you can just mail them a check). For more information, please call PDI at (800) 511-1231 or visit them online at www.pdidiesel.com.
