I typically shoot my pictures of these rare highway ghosts from the cab of my truck as they pass by me on the road, but this time I found one that was stopped – in fact, he was waiting 13 hours to get loaded! Based out of Missouri, veteran driver Art Bell has been trucking for 50 years, running his own outfit most of that time. He has seen lots of ups and downs (including his own company peaking at 35 trucks at one time). “I never got rich, but I never used people either,” said Art. Today, he can proudly display his name on his amazing 1997 Marmon, the second to last one ever built, because after all those years and all those miles, his name is still clean. Honesty and pride – and guys like Art Bell – that is what “The Spirit of the American Trucker” is all about. 10-4!
