December, already? Really?? Yep!! It’s been snowing in them-there hills, and even in some of the lower elevations already. Christmas is fast approaching, and I assure you that you are not the only one who hasn’t done any shopping for gifts yet (guilty). The gifts are sweet, but the time with family and friends is even better. I love the look and feel of Christmas, but the real reason for Christmas is the most important part of this season. The holidays can be depressing and dreadful for many people – we hear it all the time. But Jesus, whose birth we celebrate on Christmas day, wants you to put your burdens on Him. Nothing takes Him by surprise, and there is nothing He can’t handle. This year, right now, if you haven’t ever asked Him to take control of your life, I encourage you to go for it. Let go of the load that’s weighing you down, hand it over to Him and see if it starts to change your life. This poem is a reference to the weight we carry of our own burdens and sins and how we somehow are reluctant to let go of it. Nobody else wants the pile of stuff we carry, but Jesus is willing and able to carry that load so that we can be released. He has delivered us from our load of sin and He does it free of charge! On a side note, if you’re still looking for a nice little gift, go back to the rack where you got this magazine, grab a few more, then fill a few stockings with them! Merry Christmas!!
THE DELIVERER
By Trevor Hardwick
I am just an average guy,
I’m carrying a load.
The kind of load I’m draggin’ round,
Won’t roll down any road.
This weight I carry on my back,
Belongs to no one else.
I loaded every little piece,
I did it all myself.
It’s taken quite a while now,
To acquire every piece.
I’m reluctant just to let it go,
But I need some release.
No one wants to take my load,
‘Cause they’ve all got their own.
The weight I bear is crushing me,
I’m reaping what I’ve sown.
I’d put it on the load board,
And I’d ship it far away.
I need someone to take this load,
God knows the price I’d pay!
I simply can’t afford it, though,
I cannot pay the price.
Whoever takes this load of mine,
Would have to sacrifice.
The Good News is a baby boy,
Was born to take this load.
The precious Son of God,
The great Deliverer, I’m told.
He lived a perfect life in which,
He paved the road for me.
He gladly took this load of mine,
And then He set me free!
He took my load of sin,
As far as east is from the west.
He did it free of charge,
And then He gave eternal rest.
Thank you, Jesus, Lord of all,
For saving me from wrath.
For delivering my soul from sin,
And leaving me a path!
