Dreamin’ in Arizona Clint Moore’s latest creation is a new Peterbilt put together for Chuck Pfleeger of Holbrook, Arizona. Chuck called Clint and said that he wanted to order a truck with a 300-inch wheelbase and a 36-inch sleeper. Clint thought, “Been there, done that.” But then Chuck added, “I want it to be a single axle!” Now that got Clint’s blood pumping. After a few calls to Peterbilt, they got the order approved with 10.75-inch frame rails, a Reyco low-air suspension, a car hauler front axle with the blocks removed, a 13-speed transmission and a 500 horsepower Cummins ISX engine. When the white and black truck with a red frame showed up from the factory, it got the boss’ attention. He said, “I hope you got a deposit on that one?” Once it arrived, they went to work, adding a painted (black) visor, tall 5-inch miter-cut pipes, Hogebuilt quarter fenders and a custom stainless rear light bar (with only two lights). Then they installed low-rider bases and seat plates and slid them back four inches for more leg room. When Chuck was younger, he loved the old American Trucker magazine, and the cool single axles featured in it were always his favorites. Because of that fact, he named this rig “California Dreamin”. Chuck grew up on a dairy farm and can remember driving grain trucks when he was 10 or 11 years old. Although his father told him to never become a truck driver, at 22 Chuck hit the road anyway. Other drivers started calling Chuck “Mr. Clean” because he washed his truck EVERY day and always wore a clean white uniform shirt. Today, Chuck uses this rig to run from Chambers, AZ to Santa Rosa, NM once a day, five days a week, and believes that it is one of the coolest trucks running across I-40 - and we’d have to agree!
